galaxytab_vs_nexus7

Once I decided that the size and the value of a 7 in tablet was a better idea than jointing the millions of Americans that own an iPad, I was left to pick between the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and the Nexus 7.

The Major Attributes in My Analysis Are:

Galaxy Tab 2:

It has been out longer

It has more aftermarket accessories

It has a Front AND Rear-facing camera

Expandable Memory Slot

Video Output

Cellular Connectivity

It is made by Samsung

Deal on Amazon including a Physical Keyboard

Nexus 7:

First Tablet with Tegra 3 (Quad-Core Processor)

First Tablet with Android 4.1 (JellyBean)

Made by Google for Google (similar to Apple’s control over the user experience)

3 MegaPixel camera on the front

Rubberized back

$25 Google Play Credit

Because so much of my business and personal life rely on Google, I decided to go with the more powerful processor with the latest Android OS.

– I have had the tablet for a week, these are some initial observations.

Pros: The size of the tablet is fantastic. The tablet size is convenient for typing with thumbs. The rubberized back is easy to grip. Face recognition to unlock the tab is very cool. JellyBean is very quick. The tablet easily handles heavy multitasking. The battery life so far is Great! 2-3 days without charging under light to moderate use. Feels light.

The screen resolution and the speaker are on oar with what I was expecting.

Cons: The wifi antenna doesn’t pick up signal as strong as a 2009 Macbook Pro. Many apps still aren;t compatible with JellyBean. No back-facing camera (making me strongly consider an iphone for mobile photography). No Cellular connectivity. Home screen will not switch to landscape when the turned horizontally. No built-in alternative keyboard styles or languages.
